[Otaru Open-air Photo Exhibition in Former Temiya Railway 2017]
Former Temiya Railway(Temiya-sen) is the oldest railway in Hokkaido – the third older railway in Japan. I came back to the outdoor photography exhibition which holds the history of 137 years and is held in the place of this town and the place where now is connected by one rail.

Since last year, I continue to take views of trains, planes, roadside and lodging windows and travels reflected in the windows. For a traveler only a moment, while being separated by a glass with a thickness of several mm, I touch the city and its land. The journey is done in that series. “Because memory is in the middle, memory is connected” … I am making works and space with such feelings. A exhibition held at the Sapporo Art Museum in this april, “The journey is interesting until you reach your destination.” also exhibited the series.
It seems that there used to be a train in here and the Former Temiya Railway, and the traveler was watching the outside of the window. I think that the walls of the warehouse remaining along the railroad track, the stone wall and street walls, even the speed of the Steam Locomotive, has surely passed quickly. Still, the memory of the scenery reflected in the window should have remained in the depths of the travelers.

Someday, the scenery that someone has surely seen.
Just like here and there, there is a view that can be seen from each one. And the time moves, the wind blows, the water surface keeps blistering, the scenery will change even in the same place.
At that moment, I wonder what the person who stood there was thinking at that moment. I hope the feelings I felt at that moment continue to be connected to the future as well.

A photography is a medium that allows you to remember the memory someone was watching and share it with someone.
There is neither a ceiling nor a wall. We see pictures while being blown by the wind in Otaru. What are you thinking of coming from afar from nearby, in this other place not elsewhere?
I’d appreciate it if you can share someone’s memory and your memories gathering in this space that is so freely like a photo with hopefully, someone.

and, This scenery will also lead to someone’s memory some day.
