近いようで遠く、遠いようで近い。そういう存在が、周りには案外多い。
港が意外にもそういう場所なのだ、と聞いたことがあった。確かに港は街の真ん中にあるわけではないし、本来の役割以外の安全が確保されていない場所もある。
なにより、海水浴場のように水に触ることができない。それが、港の近さと遠さなのかもしれない。

触れられないものに人は距離を感じる。しかし、それ以外の感覚を使うことによってその距離を近しく感じることもできる。
防波堤によって守られている港の水面はとても静かで、では何によって揺れているかというと、潮の満ち引きや気候、出船入船もだが、そこに吹いている風の力が大きい。目に見えない空気が、水面によって見えるようになる。
いつもそこにあるのに見えないものが見えることは愉しい。港という、道路や鉄路のように線で見えてはいなくても遠くの街につながっている場所で、それをよりリアルに感じる。

防波堤には赤と白、一対の灯台が立っている。港に入ってくる船から見て右が赤、左が白と決まっている。この光、そして、街の灯りを目指して船はやってくる。
出船入船が水面に線で模様を刻み、少しの時間をおいて面に広がり、気がつくと形を変える。すぐに消えるわけではないこともまた、記憶につながる。
一本のコンクリートの線を超えれば、そこからは線の見えない旅。しかし、面に線を引き、どこへでも行こうとすることのできる旅。

この水面は、憶えている。
潮の満ち引きはカレンダー。そこにどんな風が吹き、通り過ぎていったかを。そしてひとりひとり、ひとつひとつの人、モノ、コトがここにやってきてここから旅に出たことをも。
あれからのとても長い日々は、遠くへ行くことから私たちを遠ざけてきた。おぼろげな線は見えかけてまた消えて、その行方は今もはっきりとはしていない。
それでも、私たちは憶えている。
その忘れかけた感覚を思い出すことのできる場所。

遠くのものを、近くに感じる。少しでもそばに引き寄せる。
この水面は、つながり続けている。

2022年の夏の終わりに

It seems to be close, but it is far, and it seems to be far, but it is close. There are surprisingly many such people around.
I had heard that the port was surprisingly such a place. Certainly, the port is not in the middle of the city, and there are places where safety is not ensured other than the original role.
Above all, you can't touch the water like you can at the beach. That may be the proximity and distance of the port.

People feel distance from things they can't touch. However, by using other senses, the distance can be felt closer.
The water surface of the harbor protected by the breakwater is very quiet, and what makes it sway is the ebb and flow of the tide, the weather, the arrival and departure of ships, but also the force of the wind blowing there. The invisible air is made visible by the surface of the water.
It's always there, but it's fun to see what you can't see. Ports, like roads and railroads, do not look like lines, but they are connected to distant towns, which makes it feel more real.

A pair of red and white lighthouses stand on the breakwater. As seen from the ships entering the port, the right side is red and the left side is white. A ship comes aiming for this light, and the light of the city.
The patterns of departure and entry are carved on the surface of the water, spread over the surface after a short period of time, and change shape before you know it. The fact that it does not disappear immediately also leads to memory.
If you cross a single concrete line, you will be on a journey where the line cannot be seen. However, a journey that draws a line on the surface and allows you to go anywhere.

I remember this water surface.
The ebb and flow of the tide is a calendar. What kind of wind blew there and passed by? And each and every person, thing, and thing came here and set out on a journey from here.
The very long days since then have kept us from going far. The vague line appeared and disappeared again, and its whereabouts are still unclear.
Yet we remember.
A place where you can remember that forgotten feeling.

Distant things feel closer. At least pull it closer.
This water surface continues to connect.
